What are some of today’s most common office injuries?

When you think of Connecticut’s most dangerous jobs, you might envision those held by firefighters, law enforcement officials and, perhaps, commercial truckers. You may not picture someone sitting in a corner cubicle, pounding away at a keyboard, but the reality is, employees all over the country fall victim to workplace-related injuries and ailments every day.

Per the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Office of Human Resources Management, American workers in office environments are prone to suffering slips and falls at a rate that far exceeds that of employees outside of the office. In fact, office workers are between two and two-and-a-half times more likely to suffer injuries from falls, due in part to tripping over wires, drawers, desk chairs and so on.

Falls are not the only dangers affecting today’s white collar workforce, however. You may, too, suffer injuries after getting caught in or between objects. For example, you might slam your hand or fingers in a door or drawer, or you may accidently get jewelry or your hair sucked into a paper shredder. The types of injuries that result from such events may be relatively mild in nature, such as surface cuts or abrasions, or they may prove far more serious and require amputations or multiple corrective surgeries.

Strains, too, are common injuries suffered by today’s American office workers. Back strains, in particular, are common, and they may come about due to heavy lifting of paper or boxes of office supplies. You can even suffer a strain from light lifting if you are not positioning your body correctly while doing so.

Though this information about workplace injuries is meant to be educational in nature, it is not intended to be taken as legal advice.
