Car crash involving motorcycle causes serious injuries

The difference in size between motorcycles and passenger vehicles can cause motorcycles to become easy targets for distracted drivers who may not notice them in the roadway. An accident in Connecticut involving a car and motorcycle has left the motorcyclist seriously injured, and distracted driving may have been a factor. The car crash happened on the morning of July 1 along Route 63 in Naugatuck, causing traffic to detour and the road to close for several hours.

The motorcycle was traveling south on Route 63 when a car pulled out from Laurel Avenue. The two vehicles collided, causing serious personal injury to the motorcyclist. The driver of the car suffered no serious injuries. Neither vehicle had passengers. The accident is still under investigation as authorities reconstruct the accident.

Most motorcycle accidents involve right of way violations. When this happens, the other driver - not the motorcyclist - is typically at fault. This is often because motorcycles are difficult to see. This lack of visual recognition can be further compounded by weather conditions, glare and darkness. Sometimes other vehicles can block a driver's view of motorcycles and this can lead to serious crashes as well.

Vehicle accidents are governed by the rules of negligence. Liability is determined by the actions of the drivers involved. If the driver of the vehicle is considered to be at fault for the accident, that driver could be sued by an injured motorcyclist - even if the driver does not face criminal charges. A personal injury lawsuit can help an injured motorcyclist recover compensation for medical expenses as well as other damages, such as lost wages and pain and suffering.
