Connecticut teen killed in car accident

Teen drivers often lack the driving experience and skills to handle certain driving situations. As a result, teen drivers are more likely to be involved and injured in car accidents. Startling statistics related to teen drivers and fatal car accidents have prompted many states, including Connecticut, to enact laws aimed to protect teen drivers and teen passengers.

Sadly, these laws did little to protect one 17-year-old Connecticut girl who was recently killed in a car accident. The accident occurred during the early morning hours as the 17-year-old traveled in a pickup truck with three other teenage friends. Police say the 17-year-old girl was sitting in the middle backseat of the pickup and was not wearing a seat belt at the time the crash occurred.

After stopping at a stop sign, the teen driver of the pickup truck accelerated. For unknown reasons, the driver then lost control of the vehicle which left the roadway and only came to a stop after crashing into a tree. The 17-year-old girl sustained serious injuries from which she subsequently died. All three other teen occupants are expected to fully recover.

Police continue to investigate what factors may have contributed to the crash. Any car accident which results in a loss of life is tragic. Those involving teenagers, however, seem even more tragic and senseless. While it's difficult to speculate as to what may have caused the teen driver to lose control of vehicle on that fateful night, it's likely he or she may have been distracted or possibly under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

In cases where a motor vehicle accident results in a fatality, family members are often left with many unanswered questions. As a means of finding closure, some families may choose to file a wrongful death lawsuit. Taking such legal action can not only help families get answers and find peace, but also recover compensation related to loss of life, medical bills and funeral expenses.
