One dead, one critically injured in Connecticut car accident

An out-of-control car has claimed the life of one man and left a woman critically injured. The two pedestrians were standing outside of a vehicle when they were struck by a car in Southington, about 30 minutes outside Hartford.

The fatal car accident happened on the afternoon of Jan. 5 on Laning Street. A Honda Civic was going west when it struck a Dodge Caliber that was on the right shoulder. The impact of the crash injured the female driver and the man who was outside of the car next to the driver's side. Both suffered serious injuries and were transported to Hartford Hospital for medical treatment. The man later died from his injuries. The woman's condition is unknown, but she did suffer severe injuries to her leg.

The accident didn't stop there. The Honda continued down Laning Street and hit a Ford Fusion. Neither driver was injured.

Car, pedestrian and bicycle accidents can all cause serious or even fatal injuries. These injuries can result in multiple damages, including medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering and even funeral expenses. When determining compensation for medical bills, the court will take into consideration past, present and the possibility of future medical bills, depending on the victim's condition. For example, in this case, if the woman survives, but requires an amputation of her leg or suffers from mobility issues due to the severity of the injuries, then the court will take that into consideration.

The family of the deceased man may be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver of the Honda. It is unknown how the driver lost control, but his or her negligence led to the man's death. A consultation with a personal injury lawyer can help determine the possibility of compensation.
