Information to gather before filing an 18-wheeler accident claim

Connecticut motorists who have been involved in a trucking accident know that these types of crashes can be extremely serious. Due to the sheer size of the trucks involved, it's not uncommon for victims to suffer from their injuries for many months or even years. It may take hundreds of thousands of dollars or more to pay for required medical treatment. With so much money at stake, it's important for victims to be prepared when filing an accident claim following a crash with an 18-wheeler.

Like any other type of accident, details are important. When, where and how did the crash occur? Was there a police investigation? What evidence is available (videos, photos, witnesses, etc.)? Were any traffic violations involved? These questions must be answered as thoroughly as possible.

In addition, the claim will require information about the truck driver and trucking company, if possible. The victim should have the truck driver's name, license number, license plate and affiliated companies. The claim will require information about the victim's car as well, such as the make, model, year and condition before the accident. If there is an estimate for the damages and before and after photos, those will be helpful as well.

Information about the victim's medical condition is very important because the more serious the injuries, the more compensation the victim needs. If the victim was hospitalized and can no longer perform certain activities due to the cash, then this must be stated in the claim. There should also be information about the victim's diagnosis and medical treatments performed, as well as any follow-up treatment.

The process for filing a truck accident claim can be tricky. But by answering these questions and taking the time to gather as much information as possible, victims will be able to present a stronger case and potentially receive the compensation they deserve to pay for damages.
